Labor Day: Government Is The Problem, Not The Solution

September 5, 2010

There is a growing awareness about the importance of small, independent business in America. It is being understood that 60-percent of new jobs are created by small business, and some economists estimate 75-percent of all innovation takes place in small enterprises that grow up. Ronald Reagan nailed it when he said: “If we lose economic freedom, we lose all freedom.” It bothers me to hear so many say … right here in Hall County … that government ought to do something about this recession. It bothers me that we look to Washington to create the jobs we desperately need. It bothers me that so-called Progressive Democrats who have never met a payroll have already taken over large chunks of our free-enterprise system, and are promising things will get better when government is in charge. It bothers me to see pure socialistic proposals surfacing in Congress and when Republicans oppose these government takeovers, the media echoes President Obama’s talking point that says “Republicans are the party of no.” If we conservatives are guilty of anything, it is that we failed to say “NO” early enough, and loudly enough, when liberal Democrats decided everybody should have their own home whether they could afford it or not, and created  a massive housing bubble through Fannie and Freddie. That one government action, piled on top of other deficit spending, is what got us in this hole. And several Trillion dollars later, the Obama administration has dug us in deeper and deeper. On this Labor Day, history tells us we will not even start climbing out of this mess until we say “NO” – loud and clear – to federal socialism, and return freedom to American free enterprise.
